Meet The Little Math Whiz Who Has Her Own YouTube Channel!

Most adults would need a piece of paper and pen to do calculations involving anything more than three digits.

However, all Yeshmita Murugan needs to do arithmetics involving ten digits and even more, is just her mind - and she's only seven!

Besides being a math whiz, little Yeshmitha even has her own Youtube channel called "Be Inspired", in which she does Science experiments, public speaking and also tells stories in English on the channel.

Astro Ulagam recently caught up with Yeshmitha's mother Yamena Govindasamy, who said that her daughter started doing mental arithmetics last year, aged only six.

"She used to go to a abacus and mental aritchmetic class once a week, and in September the same year, she joined the Sam Mental's Abacus & Mental Arithmetic competition and won the Excellent Award.

"Now she can perform math quotions involving hundreds of thousands, millions, and even billions," said the mother of three. Yeshmitha's two younger siblings are aged three and one, respectively.

Besides, Yeshmitha was also the champion award winner of the 2019 Thirumurai Othum Vizha (spiritual/religious song singing competition).

Able to solve tough quotions

Yamena used to work in the banking in line but quit to be a housewife to take care of her kids.

Her husband, Murugan Perumal, is an inspector at the Sentul police headquarters.

According to Yamena, Yeshmitha could perform simple math problems, including reciting the 4 and 5 times tables, when she was just four.

"I also used to teach her about space, and other science-related stuff.

"It was only during the recent MCO (Movement Control Order) that I taught her to solve complicated arithmetics involving big numbers," she said.

Astro Ulagam viewed videos of Yeshmitha being asked additions involving multiple numbers and the little girl answers the questions with ease, within moments.

She can also solve substractions involving millions and billions, on the whiteboard, even without "borrowing" or cancelling off numbers.

Yeshmitha's explainer video on the coronavirus which causes COVID-19 even attracted the attention of renowned local female scientist Dr Mahaletchumy Arujunan.

Sharing the video back in April, Dr Maha lauded Yeshmitha's "factual" explanation of the matter.

"Very engaging, convincing, and full of empathy," she said.

So young, and yet, so talented.

According to Yamena, Yeshmitha's "short-term" ambition is to become a "human calculator", while her  long-term ambition is to become a doctor.

God Speed, little one. May Yeshmitha reach greater heights in the future!
