While many people are complaining about being gripped by "cabin fever" due to the current coronavirus lockdown, little math whiz Yeshmitha Murugan has utilized this spare time to improve her already magnificient arithmetic skills.

The eight-year-old does complex additions and multiplications involving eight digits and more, using only her mind.

Her mother, Yamena Govindasamy told Astro Ulagam that she trained Yeshmitha in long multiplication problem solving last month.

"We started the practice last month, around May 10. We wanted to prove that the MCO (Movement Control Order) or even the current COVID-19 pandemic, will not stop us from achieving continious success," she said.

In June last year, Astro Ulagam had reported about the impressive skills of the little whiz, who also has her own YouTube channel called "Be Inspired", where she has more than 1,000 subscribers. In the channel, she shares science experiments, public speaking and also tells stories in English.

According to Yamena, Yeshmitha started doing mental arithmetics aged only six, and has won a number of awards in math competitions.

Besides her impressive math prowess, little Yeshmitha also has a solid rooting in the Hindu religion and Indian culture - having won the 2019 Thirumurai Othum Vizha (spiritual/religious song singing competition).

Yamena used to be a banker but quit to be a housewife to take care of her three children. Yeshmitha is the eldest while her younger siblings are aged four and two, respectively.

Her husband, Murugan Perumal, is an inspector at the Sentul police headquarters.

Previously, Yeshmitha's explainer video on the SARS-Cov-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, even attracted the attention of renowned local female scientist Dr Mahaletchumy Arujunan.

Sharing the video back in April last year, Dr Maha had lauded Yeshmitha's "factual" explanation of the matter as being "very engaging, convincing, and full of empathy."

Kudos to Yeshmitha's parents for coaching her the right way. May the little math prodigy reach much greater heights in the future!
