  • 22 Jul 2020

Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng was called by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today.

According to The Star, Lim, who was also Penang chief minister between 2008 and 2018, was likely called in regards to the controversial RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project.

Lim arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya about 1.05pm, accompanied by his lawyers Gobind Singh Deo and RSN Rayer, who are also Puchong and Jelutong MPs, respectively.

The MACC have questioned almost 12 people, including current Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow, Deputy Chief Minister ll Dr P. Ramasamy, and state exco member Jagdeep Singh Deo, in connection with alleged graft in the project.

Among others, the graftbusters are investigating why a payment of RM220 million had been paid to the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the project, when the RM305 million feasibility and detailed design studies are yet to be completed.

Media personnel converged outside the MACC headquarters after hearing that Lim has been summoned for questioning.
