Former National Footballer V Krishnasamy Passes Away

  • 03 Aug 2020

Former national footballer V Krishnasamy, a member of Malaysia's 1972 Munich Olympics team, has passed away.

According to reports, the 72-year died about 8.30pm yesterday at the Penang General Hospital, after a long time battle with diabetes, which resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee.

Krishnasamy had spent his final years in a nursing home in Penang, relying on his pension as a retired prisons department sergeant major, as his children had obligations of their own.

He began his career with the Penang Indian Association and Waterfall Rangers, before representing Penang in the Burnley Cup.

Krishnasamy then played for Perak, and subsequently, the national team from 1967 to 1976.

He was part of the Malaysian team which beat US 3-0 at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.

After his retirement from national-level football, Krishnasamy served as a technical official at the Penang Amateur Association for many years.

His passing was confirmed by the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) and family members.

Krishnasamy's remains were cremated at the Batu Lanchang Hindu Crematorium this afternoon.
