Those who have been driving with expired driving licence or road tax during the Movement Control Order (MCO), please get the documents renewed the latest by tomorrow.

This is because the abeyance for renewal given during the period expires on Wednesday (Sept 30), and come Thursday (Oct 1), the Road Transport Department (RTD) will resume enforcement.

In a Facebook post put up on its official page, RTD advised the public to get their documents sorted the soonest possible to avoid last minute rush.

The grace period for non-renewal was supposed to have ended on Aug 31, but Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong announced an extension of until Sept 30, keeping in mind the extension of the Recovery MCO (RMCO).

The extension was made after considering the hardships and financial hurdles faced by many due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had said.

Up until mid-June, about 2.11 million road tax documents, and 2.18 million driving licences were yet to be renewed.

It is unclear what the current numbers are like.

Besides the end of the documents renewal period, RTD's 70% discount campaign for compoundable summonses will also end on Sept 30, the department announced.

The country is currently under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) until Dec 31, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has so far infected 11,034 people, and killed 134, in the country.

So if you have been putting off renewing your licence or roadtax, it's about time to get them renewed before the law catches up with you!
