The perennial water supply disruption in Selangor is back, this time affecting more than 300,000 accounts in the Klang Valley.

This after pollution was detected at Sungai Semenyih yesterday, forcing Syarikat Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) to halt operations at its water treatment plants in Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi.

According to a statement posted on its official website, Air Selangor said 309,687 accounts in 274 locations in the Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, and Sepang districts will experience unscheduled water supply disruption until the issue is sorted.

"At the moment, we are unable to gauge the period for the resumption of the affected water treatment plants' operation, and the restoration of the water supply.

"Please refer to the Air Selangor app and official social media channels for updates," read the statement.

Meanwhile, Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has tweeted that the pollution originated from Sungai Batang Benar in Negeri Sembilan - some 30km away from Sungai Semenyih.

However, what caused the pollution is yet to be identified.

According to him further, the threshold odour number (TON) from the water sample taken from Sungai Semenyih at 4.30pm yesterday measured 4 TON, and at 9pm, it had increased to 11 TON.

The colour of the river has also turned murky from the pollution and the authorities are unable to say if the TON number will increase further.
