Most parents can relate to the "pain" of having to teach their children homework, more so if it involves a subject like mathematics.

But pain is literally what happened to a man surnamed Liu, from Shenzen, China, recently.

According to reports, Liu got so stressed teaching maths to his son, who is in third grade, that he suffered a heart attack.

Liu had begun coaching his son on the latter's nightly math assignmments, and he had noticed that whenever he became agitated while trying to explain a problem, he would experience chest discomfort.

However, the issue came to a head recently when Liu tried to repeatedly explain a problem to his son, three times, but to no avail.

He reportedly experienced intense chest pain, before fainting. He checked into a nearby hospital when he came to, and there, he fainted again, while foaming at the mouth.

Checks revealed that Liu's main coronary artery was almost completely blocked, cutting off the blood supply to the heart.

Doctors literally diagnosed that Liu's frustration during the homework coaching session caused his blood pressure to shoot up, which in turn, damahed his blood vessels and heart.

Liu was later operated on and is currently recuperating at the hospital.

This is not the first time a parent has suffered a near-fatal encounter while teaching homework to their children.

In November last year, a woman surnamed Wang, from Hubei, also in China, suffered a heart attack after she became overly frustrated as her son could not complete a math problem.

"I explained it to him many times but he still couldn't get it. I was so angry that I could explode. Suddenly, my heart was palpitating and I couldn't breathe properly,” the 36-year was quoted saying by China Press.

Doctors later told the woman that she was lucky to have made it to the hospital in time, as a slight delay would have ended in her fatality.
