An Indian farmer who worshipped Donald Trump has died of a cardiac arrest after becoming deeply upset over the US President's COVID-19 infection.

Bussa Krishna, in his thirties, from Telangana, became a die-hard fan of Trump about four years ago, after the latter appeared in his dream and predicted the outcome of a cricket match between India and Pakistan the following day.

India did win the match, and from then on, Bussa became so obsessed with Trump that he commissioned a shrine containing a life-size statue of Trump in his backyard, where he conducted Hindu worship rituals for up to two hours every morning.

Bussa's obsession with the politician cum businessman did not end there. He even made a trip to the United State Embassy in New Delhi ahead of Trump's trip to India last February to arrange a meeting, but to no avail.

When Bussa learned about Trump's COVID-19 positive diagnosis, he reportedly became deeply depressed. He posted a tearful plea on his Facebook page, asking his friends to pray for the speedy recovery of his "God" Trump.

Then he locked himself in his room and refused to eat anything for days.

Last Sunday, Bussa collapsed, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Bussa, a widower, is survived by his parents and his seven-year-old son.

Trump revealed on Oct 2 that he, and his wife Melania, have contracted the coronavirus, which has so far killed more than a million people worldwide.

Trump was only hospitalised for about three days, before saying he has recovered and felt "powerful" after being treated in the hospital.

He is now back on the campaign trail for the November 3 US election.
