No Further Action Against PAS Minister For Breaching COVID-19 Quarantine: Cops

  • 21 Oct 2020

No further action will be taken against Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali for breaching his COVID-19 quarantine.

Bukit Aman CID chief Huzir Mohamed told a press conference today that this is because the PAS MP was not issued with a home surveillance order (Form 14b) under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342), upon his return from Turkey in July.

"In the investigation paper that has been referred to the attorney-general, we were instructed to classify the case as No Further Action (NFA)," Huzir said.

Khairuddin had previously come under fire for violating the 14-day mandatory quarantine order for overseas returnees, enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19.

He had failed to observe the directive, and attended a Dewan Rakyat meeting shortly after his return from Turkey.

For the offence, the minister was slapped with a mere RM1,000 fine, which caused a backlash from various quarters, who called for him to either resign, or to be slapped with a more stern punishment.

This was compounded by the fact that normal Malaysians who have similarly breached the quarantine order have been subjected much heavier punishments, including the fine amount, and even imprisonment.
