Three-Ply-Face-Masks-To-Cost-70-Sen-Each-From-Nov-1

Three-ply face masks will cost 70 sen a unit from November 1.

Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi announced this in a statement today.

According to him further, two-ply and N95 masks would retail for 20 sen and RM6 each, respectively.

The ceiling price for three-ply face masks was initially set at RM1.50 each, but it was lowered to RM1 a unit in August. Alexander had then said that the price could be reduced further.

Senior Minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob told his daily COVID-19 briefing yesterday that non-mask wearers topped the list of violators of standard operating procedures (SOPs) set to contain the spread of COVID-19.

In August, the government made the wearing of face masks in crowded public places, including in public transportation, mandatory.

Those who fail to abide with the ruling are issued with a RM1,000 compound.

The number of new COVID-19 infections in the country has spiked lately, with 1,240 new cases recorded yesterday - the highest since the pandemic began early this year.

As of yesterday, there has been a total of 27,805 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, with 236 deaths.

To deal with the spike in cases, Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) has been imposed in several states, including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Sabah. Nilai in Negeri Sembilan has also been placed under the CMCO.

The global infection and death tally from the coronavirus has surpassed 43.7 million, and 1.16 million, respectively.
