PAS MP Defends Minister Who Didn't Wear Mask in Public

  • 02 Nov 2020

A PAS MP has come to the defence of his party colleague cum minister, Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, who has yet again, seemingly flouted COVID-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOPs).

According to Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abduh Aziz, Khairuddin's now-viralized act of interacting with several people, including the elderly, while not wearing a face mask, is to "enlighten" the people about the government's face mask rules.

"He (Khairuddin) has shown us that there is no need to wear a face mask in a place that is not crowded.

"Do not fall for the instigation of Pakatan Harapan supporters who are making pictures of the minister (Khairuddin) without a face mask, viral. That is the dumbing down of the people's mind," the PAS central committee member and the son of former Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said in a recent Facebook post.

Sahabat tanya saya perihal YB Dato Mohd Khairuddin, Menteri Sawit dan Getah itu, apasal tak pakai pelitup muka sampai...

This is not the first time Khairuddin, who is Kuala Nerus MP, and Plantation Industries and Commodities minister, has incurred the wrath of the majority of Malaysians, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He failed to abide the 14-day quarantine rule after his return from Turkey last July, and for that offence, he only got off with a RM1,000 compound, while normal people who have committed similar offences have been slapped with much heavier punishments, including imprisonment.

Last month, the Attorney-General's Chambers ruled that there will be no further action (NFA) taken against Khairuddin, despite the outcry on social media over the slap on his wrist.

The government made the wearing of face masks in public places mandatory, beginning August.

Those who flout the rule are slapped with a RM1,000 fine.
