The government may review the implementation of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) in areas that are experiencing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, in a Facebook post last night, said this involves areas in Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, and Perak.

The need for review was among the topic of discussions in a National Security Council (NSC) meeting he chaired yesterday.

"In the meeting, we discussed about the RMCO which will end this December, whereas the COVID-19 situation remains unchanged.

"In fact, several areas have had to undergo the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO). I'm of the opinion that RMCO should be reviewed in areas which are facing a resurgence in COVID-19 cases," said Muhyiddin.

The RMCO, which was initially slated to end on Aug 31, was extended to Dec 31. However, the resurgence of COVID-19 cases caused the government to implement CMCO in several states, including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Sabah.

Seremban in Negeri Sembilan will also join the CMCO list beginning tomorrow, until Nov 18, 2020.

Yesterday, a total of 1,054 new COVID-19 cases, and a record-high of 12 deaths from the disease, were recorded.

The total number of COVID-19 infections and deaths in the country stands at 34,393, and 263, respectively.

Globally, the coronavirus has infected more than 47.8 million people and killed over 1.2 million.
