Astro Malaysia today confirmed that one of its employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement, an Astro spokesperson said that the employee working in its Outside Broadcast (OB Truck) transportation team at its headquarters in Bukit Jalil, tested positive on 5 April 2020.

The employee is currently being treated at a government hospital.

The spokesperson assured that the matter will not disrupt broadcasting in any way, and said that customers can continue to enjoy their favourite programmes, as usual.

Contact tracing is also being done to establish the number of individuals who had been in contact with the infected employee, added the spokesperson.

"Our employees' health and safety is our utmost priority.

"Astro is committed to carrying out safety measures in the office to ensure the safety of our staff.

"This includes increasing the frequency of office sanitization, providing hand sanitizers, encouraging social distancing in the cafe and the lifts, taking the employees' temperature when they enter the office premise, and cancelling all life broadcasts."

The Astro headquarters in Bukit Jalil has been temporarily closed to allow a full sanitisation process to be carried out, following the latest development.

The broadcast giant had previously divided its staff at the headquarters into several groups, to allow working from home arrangements.
