"Prejudice cannot see the things that are because it is always looking for things that aren't", goes a quote on the internet.

We have all been through it at one point or another, either on the receiving end or as the person who judges another without reason.

It is such misplaced suspicions and notions that Astro's Deepavali 2021 television commercial seeks to break.

The #BeTheLight commercial tells of one Dr Kugan, who is misjudged by three individuals whom he crosses paths with, during his journey to his office one day. Only when the individuals find out that the person they had judged earlier is the doctor who's going to attend to them at his clinic later do their pre-conceived notions of him shatter into pieces.

The one-minute-long video, despite its short running time, drives home the point that it is not proper to judge others, especially on the first impression.

Prem Anand, Vice President, Indian Customer Business, Astro said that the idea for the commercial was conceived to reflect Astro's theme for this year's Deepavali - Be The Light (Oliyaai Thigazhvom).

"I think the commercial captures the scenario most Malaysians would have gone through in their lives at one point or another.

"It seeks to break prejudice, stereotypes, and inspire people to be the best version of themselves," he told Astro Ulagam.

According to Prem, the message in the video is especially crucial amid the COVID-19 pandemic-stricken world.

"Most of the pictures/stories we hear nowadays are gloomy, so the idea (of the ad) was to bring positive change."

Prem further noted that as the saying goes, looks can be (and often are) deceiving, and it is not cool to shrug off someone without knowing the full picture.

"The key message is that change must come from within. Be the change you want to see in this world."

The #BeTheLight TV commercial performed really well on various social media accounts of Astro-related portals, including Gempak and Astro Ulagam.

In addition, it also gained thousands of positive comments from netizens, who lauded the timely message behind the advertisement.
