Astro was awarded the Overall Excellence in CSR by a Media Company at the Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards 2021 today.

Astro is deeply honoured that CSR Malaysia has recognised its commitment to the community by championing education and being a voice for good. Astro marked its 25th anniversary this year and the company reaffirms its corporate commitment to care for the customers and communities through the ESG (environmental, social and governance) strategies.

With education as the primary focus, Astro has invested RM120 million over the past decade to offer learning content like Tutor TV and TVIQ and equip over 10,000 schools with the Kampus Astro decoder so that 5 million students nationwide can access it. The company's commitment goes beyond its platforms, and it has also worked hard to create a conducive learning environment in three hostels in schools in remote Sabah and Sarawak, helping 220 students save over 190,000 hours of daily average commute.

In the past year, Astro also allocated over 16,000 hours of public service announcements across its platforms to amplify topics including health and safety amid COVID-19, environmental conservation, social issues as well as national unity.

Astro has also been organising the Astro Kem Badminton programme annually since 2012 to identify and unearth promising young shuttlers. Up until 2019, over 16,000 children have benefitted from the programme, and Astro is proud that over 65% of the current Malaysian junior national team are alumni of Astro Kem Badminton.

Astro received the prestigious award from Dato’ R. Rajendran, Chairman of CSR Malaysia and Lee Seng Chee, Co-Chairman and Managing Editor of CSR Malaysia. The event was held at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards was established by CSR Malaysia as an annual event to recognize outstanding corporations who have excelled in the socio-economic transformation of Malaysia. The event is supported by Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
