A Bangladeshi national who made a TikTok video disparaging Deepavali has been jailed four months for overstaying.

Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay told news portal Free Malaysia Today (FMT) that Sabbir Hossen, 29, was sentenced by the Muar magistrate's court on Nov 16 under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act.

The foreigner also faces two more charges, under Section 505 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) for allegedly threatening public order and peace with the racist clip. Both investigations are still ongoing.

On Nov 5, the bearded and skull-cap-wearing Sabbir posted a video on TikTok, in which he can heard insulting the Deepavali festival.

He said those celebrating the festival of lights did not pray in the morning, while during Hari Raya, Muslims prayed first. As such, Deepavali was a celebration of the infidels, and he urged the people to not follow it.

It is good that the authorities have booked Sabbir for his folly.

Let's hope that there will be more charges coming the way of this illegal foreigner who tried to disrupt the country's harmony.
