In a bizarre scene that seems ripped straight out of a Tamil movie, a groom in India ended up marrying the sister of his bride, after the latter died before the start of the wedding rituals.
According to Times of India, the incident happened last week at the Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh in India.
The bride, identified as Surabhi, had reportedly complained of feeling unwell before collapsing ahead of the wedding rituals. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, from what doctors later said was a heart attack.
The groom, identified as Mangesh Kumar, then asked for the deceased's younger sister, Nisha's hand in marriage.
The bride's family, who reportedly admitted that it was a "tough call" to make, eventually agreed to the arrangement, all the while when Surabhi's corpse was lying in another room of the family.
Her last rites were only performed after the marriage ceremony was over.
What do you think? Were both families insensitive to press on with the marriage despite the bride's death, or was it justified as the "show had to go on"?
