Child Abuse Cases on the Rise: Here’s How Malaysians Can Report Suspected Abuse?

Child abuse

As concerns over child abuse and neglect continue to rise in Malaysia, the public is being reminded that anyone who suspects a child may be in danger has the right and responsibility to report it to the relevant authorities immediately.

Child abuse cases can be reported even without concrete proof, as authorities stress that reasonable concern alone is enough to make a report if a child’s safety may be at risk.

In Malaysia, suspected or known cases of child abuse and neglect can be reported to the following authorities:

1. Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)

2. Government hospitals or clinics

3. Social Welfare Department (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat – JKM)

Authorities emphasise that reports can be made by anyone regardless of age, gender, profession, religion, or relationship to the child. Whether it is a neighbour, teacher, family member, friend, or concerned member of the public, every report could help save a child from further harm.

If a child is believed to be in immediate danger, the public is urged to contact the police or seek urgent medical assistance without delay.

In addition, Malaysians can also reach out to Talian Kasih 15999, a 24-hour public complaint and assistance hotline provided by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM).

The platform offers free and confidential assistance for cases involving:

  • Child abuse
  • Child neglect
  • Sexual harassment
  • Baby abandonment

Members of the public can contact Talian Kasih via:

Hotline: 15999

WhatsApp: 019-2615999

With child abuse cases becoming an increasing concern nationwide, authorities continue to encourage the public not to stay silent when witnessing suspicious behaviour or signs of abuse. A single report could make a life-changing difference in protecting a vulnerable child.
