A 10-year-old girl, who had been missing since Thursday evening, was discovered deceased with injuries near Kannampalayam lake in the Sulur region of Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore on Friday. Authorities have apprehended two suspects, who allegedly kidnapped the girl and subsequently murdered her. According to the police, the girl had left her home in the Sulur area to purchase groceries when the suspects reportedly abducted her and later took her life. The suspects have been identified as Karthik and Mohan Raj.
"During the investigation, which involved reviewing CCTV footage and conducting technical inquiries, the police determined that the girl's neighbor, Karthik, had taken her with him. The suspect, Karthik, was apprehended at a different location. While attempting to flee from the police, he sustained fractures to his leg and hand. The suspect confessed that the girl was sexually assaulted and killed on a coconut farm near a pond. Further investigation revealed that another suspect, Mohan, assisted the primary suspect. Mohan was also arrested and placed in judicial custody.

Karthik is currently receiving treatment at the hospital," stated West Region Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ramya. In the aftermath of the incident, the girl's parents and relatives held a protest outside the Sulur police station, demanding justice. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has expressed that such incidents will not be tolerated. "The horrific incident that occurred yesterday involving a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore brings immense sorrow and shock. Such inhumane and unforgivable criminal acts can never be accepted in our society," he posted on X.
Vijay's response followed the victim's family refusing to retrieve the body from the mortuary until they received an assurance from the chief minister. "We will not take the body until we receive any statement from the chief minister. We voted for change. Now, he is not even providing a statement or assurance. This indicates that there will be no change after the new government as well," she informed ANI. A relative of the victim, Senthil Kumar, told ANI that the family remains unaware of how the incident unfolded.
