The police are looking for a suspect who allegedly killed a monitor lizard, and injured a monkey, with arrows, at the Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.
An employee of the National Landscape Department lodged a report yesterday after receiving a screenshot and video via WhatsApp, of the injured monkey and the dead monitor lizard. Videos of the incident have also gone viral on social media since yesterday.
The lizard can be seen with an arrow through its rib, while the monkey has an arrow piercing its tail.
It is unclear when the incident actually occurred.
Brickfields police chief ACP Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin said the case is being investigated under Section 29(1)(e) of Animal Welfare Act 2015, where animal abusers can be jailed up to three years, or fined a maximum of RM100,000, upon conviction.
The Malaysia Animal Association is offering a RM5,000 cash reward on those who can provide information that can lead to the arrest of the culprit responsible for the despicable act.
