Kedah police have arrested 11 alleged gang members, including two women, after a video of them gathering in a house to celebrate Father's Day went viral on social media.

In addition to not following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the Movement Control Order, the suspects are also being probed for gang affiliation after one of them is seen cutting a cake in the form of number 35.

Gang 35 is a notorious triad involved in drug trafficking, criminal intimidation, robbery and other cases in the Sungai Petani area, the police have said before.

Kedah police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the suspects, aged between 26 and 61, were picked up from various spots around Kulim, yesterday.

"Cops from the Kulim police headquarters spotted a 44-second long video of the celebration on TikTok, which showed about 15 individuals (most of them from different households) gathered inside a house with no physical distancing.

"Further checks revealed that the group was celebrating Father's Day for one of the members," Kamarul Zaman said in a statement, reported Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

Aside of being probed for flouting COVID-19 restrictions, the suspects are also being investigated under the Penal Code for gang-related offences.
