The Penang police have arrested a man who was caught on video feeding a baby alcohol.

Southwest district police chief Kamalarul Rizal Jenal said the 19-year-old, who has 14 previous criminal records, was picked up in the Teluk Bahang area at 1.30pm yesterday.

The baby, despite appearing healthy, has been admitted to the Penang Hospital for observation, The Vibes reported.

According to the report, the suspect was arrested following a report by David Marshel, the chairman of non-governmental organisation (NGO) Tamilar Kural Malaysia, who had spotted the 30-second video, which was being circulated on social media.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported that the incident was believed to have happened last March at a house the suspect was renting in Teluk Bahang, Penang, when the baby was just five months old.

In the video, recorded by the suspect's friend, the helpless infant is seen sipping what is believed to be alcohol from a can offered by the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act, relating to the ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act regarding improper use of network facilities.
