The police are investigating independent preacher Mohd Syakir Nasoha who was captured in a viral video spouting disparaging remarks against the non-Muslims.

Bukit Aman CID director Abdul Jalil Hassan, in a statement last night said that the probe was being carried out by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit, Prosecution and Law Division (D5) of the federal police.

"The investigation is under Section 505 (c) of the Penal Code for making statement with intent to incite or which is likely to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 on abuse of net facilities or network services."

A video of Syakir making disparaging racial comments about non-Muslim religions and the Dayak community went viral on social media recently, causing more than 3,000 police reports to be lodged against him, nationwide.

In the one-minute TikTok video, Syakir can be heard saying that "at the end of time, disciples of non-Muslim religions will be scrambling together to kill Muslims in the world."

He further claimed that Buddhists and Hindus are behind the killings of Muslims in Thailand and India.

Following backlash, Syakir claimed that his speech has been taken out of context, and misunderstood.

He also stressed that his speech was meant for Muslims only.
