COVID-19 cases have been reported in at least nine gyms and fitness centers in the Klang Valley.

According to Malaysiakini, cases reported involve members, instructors or other staff at the establishments in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

The gyms, which have since been closed to facilitate sanitation and contact tracing, are as follows:
Several of the establishments reported multiple infections. For instance, Revelation Republic in Taman Sea has three members who tested positive for the virus, while Club Aloha in Sri Hartamas has two cases involving a member and an instructor, reported the portal.

Flyproject reported nine cases among its employees and two members among its various establishments in the Klang Valley.

According to the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the National Security Council, face masks are not required for exercising indoors or outdoors.

Individuals, however, must ensure physical distancing of at least one meter from one another while exercising, the Health Ministry's guidelines stipulate.

It is worth mentioning that the US' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had last November said that individuals who are undergoing strenous exercise routines, may breathe heavily, thus release more aeresols into the air containing the COVID-19 virus.

This could infect others who are not wearing face masks, within the same premise, especially if the place is poorly ventilated, the CDC had warned.
