The Health Ministry has applied to hire almost 2,000 more health care workers, to help cope with the fight against COVID-19.
Health Minister Dr Adham Baba, in a statement today said that the 1,899 additional workers, which include research officers, nurses, assistant medical officers, and lab technicians, would be hired on a contract basis.
The application has been submitted to the Public Service Department and the Finance Ministry, following the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the country, especially in Sabah, Kedah, and Selangor.
According to Adham, the additional officers will be stationed on the frontline, such as hospitals, health clinics, laboratories, district health offices, the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centres, as well as quarantine stations nationwide and international gateways into the country, including airports.
Malaysia has recorded triple-digit COVID-19 cases daily, in the past week.
So far, the country has 15,657 confirmed COVID-19 infections and 157 deaths from the disease.
The global infection and death tally from the coronavirus have surpassed 37.7 million, and 1.08 million, respectively.
