Dato’ Saunthari Somasundaram Named Among the 100 Most Influential People in Oncology 2025

Dato’ Saunthari Somasundaram’s lifelong dedication to cancer care and public health has earned her a place among - The 100 Most Influential People in Oncology in 2025, a recognition that honours individuals whose work continues to shape the future of cancer care worldwide.

As the President and Medical Director of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) and Co-Chairperson of NCD Malaysia, Dato’ Saunthari brings more than two decades of experience in cancer prevention, patient support, and noncommunicable disease (NCD) policy. Her efforts have been instrumental in strengthening civil society engagement and supporting national strategies that integrate NCD care into universal health coverage frameworks, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

 

 

 

Beyond Malaysia, her leadership extends to the global stage. She is the President-Elect of the NCD Alliance and a board member of the City Cancer Challenge Foundation (C/Can), having previously served on the board of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Her commitment to tobacco control and cancer prevention is further reflected through her work with national expert committees and partnerships with international bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In recognition of her unwavering public service and contributions to health advocacy, Dato’ Saunthari was conferred the title Dato’ by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak.

The 100 Most Influential People in Oncology list celebrates changemakers whose work continues to advance cancer care through leadership, advocacy, research, education, and philanthropy. Dato’ Saunthari’s inclusion stands as a quiet yet powerful testament to the impact of compassion, collaboration, and sustained commitment in improving lives affected by cancer.
