Planning to set up a stall at this year’s Deepavali Bazaar in Kuala Lumpur? There is good news for traders, with the cost of participating in the 2026 bazaar reduced by 85% to a maximum of RM400, including the deposit.
The Deepavali Bazaar 2026 will run for 30 days, from October 9 to November 7, giving traders a longer period to sell their products and make the most of the festive season.
Where will the Deepavali Bazaar be held?
The bazaar will take place at two main locations:
- Tun Sambanthan Complex car park, through the Deepavali Mega Bazaar concept
- Jalan Bunus 6, off Jalan Masjid India
A total of 172 trading lots will be made available at the two locations.
How much does the licence cost?
For 2026, traders will pay a maximum of RM400, comprising:
- RM30 – licence fee
- RM150 – service charge
- RM150 – site rental
- RM70 – deposit
This is a significant reduction from 2025, when traders paid RM2,626 in total, including a RM2,000 deposit.
Who can apply?
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Apply through an association recognised by DBKL
- Be a Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above
- Have no outstanding DBKL traffic compound payments
- Have no outstanding rental payments for DBKL's built market or hawker centre stalls
How can traders apply?
Interested traders should apply directly through Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) or through a DBKL-recognised association.
DBKL has also reminded traders to be cautious of middlemen. With the official participation fee capped at RM400, applicants should avoid paying thousands of ringgit to individuals claiming to secure a bazaar lot on their behalf.
What else is different this year?
Apart from the lower cost, the trading period has been extended from 21 days previously to 30 days this year.
The bazaar will also use a hybrid management model. DBKL will remain responsible for licensing, regulations and enforcement, while participating associations will assist with the day-to-day management of the bazaar.
For traders hoping to earn extra income during the Deepavali season, the lower entry cost and longer operating period could make this year's bazaar an opportunity worth considering.
Before applying, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements and deal directly with DBKL or the recognised associations to avoid unnecessary costs.
