A Malaysian academic and maritime strategist has earned national recognition after being appointed as a Visiting Fellow to the prestigious RMN Seapower Centre (PUSMAS), while also being commissioned as an Honorary Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Malaysian Navy Reserve.
Dr Tarshini Krishnan, who is widely respected for her expertise in maritime strategy and defence studies, officially received the appointment from the Deputy Chief of Navy, marking another proud milestone in her distinguished career.
Currently serving as the Head of the Strategic Department at the Faculty of Defence Studies and Management, National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM), Dr Tarshini has long been recognised as one of the country’s emerging strategic minds in the maritime domain.
Her academic journey reflects years of dedication and excellence. She pursued her studies in International Relations before completing her Master’s degree in Security Analysis and Policy at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She later earned her PhD from the globally renowned King’s College London, where her research focused on Maritime Power and strategic maritime studies
Beyond her academic achievements, Dr Tarshini’s latest appointment symbolises the growing role of women in national defence, security strategy and policymaking.
With her expertise now contributing directly to the Royal Malaysian Navy’s strategic development, many believe her insights will play an important role in shaping Malaysia’s maritime future.
