A marketing executive was charged in the Shah Alam magistrate's court today with the murder of two teenagers at the Federal Highway last week.

No plea was recorded from K Devaaswin, 24, when the charge was read out to him before magistrate Nur Faizal Abdul Sani as the lower court has no jurisdiction to try the offence. The case, which carries the death penalty, is expected to be transferred to the High Court later.

According to the charge, Devaaswin killed Muhammad Hafiz Syamir Dzul Asri, 19, and Nur Afiqah Abdul Karm 18, at KM8.6 of the expressway about 1.50am on Sept 12.

The Proton Wira driven by Nur Afiqah, with Muhammad Hafiz in tow, was heading towards Kuala Lumpur from Klang, when a four-wheel drive vehicle, reportedly driven by the suspect against the flow of traffic while high on drugs, ploughed into them head-on.

Horrifying clips of the crash and the aftermath went viral on social media last week.

The case has been fixed for Oct 21 for mention, pending the completion of post-mortem, as well as the chemist and Puspakom reports.
