Grab has introduced a Women-Only Rides (Beta) feature in Malaysia, allowing female passengers to be matched exclusively with female driver-partners.
The new feature is designed to provide women with greater comfort and peace of mind, particularly when travelling alone or at night. However, unlike regular Grab rides, the service is not available for instant, on-demand bookings and comes with several requirements.
Advance booking required
Women-Only Rides can only be accessed through Grab’s Advance Booking feature. Passengers cannot request an immediate ride through the service.
Trips must be booked at least 75 minutes in advance, while users can schedule a journey up to 90 days ahead. The advance booking requirement gives Grab time to match passengers with an available female driver-partner.
The service is currently limited to city rides and does not cover airport transfers to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or intercity journeys.
Grab’s official website currently states that the feature is available in the Klang Valley, although the Grab app also indicates availability in Johor and Penang.

Who can use Women-Only Rides?
The service is available to solo female passengers as well as groups consisting entirely of women.
To maintain the service’s female-only arrangement, driver-partners have been instructed to cancel a trip if an adult male passenger is present at the pickup location.
However, an exception is made for female passengers travelling with male children aged 12 and below.
Identity verification required
Passengers must complete a one-time identity verification process before accessing the Women-Only Rides feature.
Users are required to submit a MyKad or passport along with a selfie. Grab then cross-checks the information against official records, with access granted only to individuals whose official documents identify them as female.
How to activate the feature?
Users can complete the process through the Grab app by following these steps:
1. Open the Grab app and select the Women-Only Rides section.
2. Tap “here” under “Declare your gender in Grab profile here”.
3. Select “Gender” and choose the appropriate option.
4. Tap “Save”.
5. For identity verification, select “here” under “Verify your identity on the app here”.
6. Follow the instructions provided to complete the verification process.

Grab says verification may take up to three working days.
Once the verification has been approved, the Women-Only Rides option will appear under the “Standard” category when users make an Advance Booking.
The feature is currently being offered as a beta service, and its availability may vary depending on location and driver-partner availability.
