The government has announced cheaper and free toll nationwide for the upcoming Hari Raya holidays.

In a statement today, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the incentives are given in conjunction with the country's transition to the endemic phase of COVID-19 since April 1, and the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

"The decision was taken after negotiations with 30 highway concession companies. The free toll and discount incentives at 30 highways nationwide are worth a total of RM77.11 million, and the cost will be borne by the government, and the concession companies," Ismail said.

According to the premier, the free toll rates can be enjoyed by users of the North-South Expressway, owned by PLUS Malaysia Berhad, as well as the East-Coast Expressway (LPT), owned by ANIH Berhad, from midnight on April 30 to 11.59pm on May 1, 2022, for all vehicles.

The free toll incentive would also be extended to users of the two highways for the journey back home, from midnight on May 7 to 11.59pm on May 8, 2022, also for all classes of vehicles.

Ismail expressed hope that the incentive would enliven this year's Hari Raya celebrations.

"The government's decision also takes into account the pandemic's impact on the people's livelihoods, and to alleviate the burden of road users, especially those from the low income group.

"At the same time, I hope that we, as Keluarga Malaysia, will bear with the millions of vehicles on the roads during this festive season. Drive safely and be careful on the road."
