Istana Negara has asked all MPs to submit the name of their candidate of choice for the prime minister's post, by tomorrow evening.

Relaying this information to the parliamentarians, Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun said the MPs should include statutory declarations (SDs) with details of only one candidate, with a clear and unconditional declaration of their support, to Col (Rtd) Nazim Mohd Alim, the private secretary of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, by 4pm tomorrow.

The confidential documents are to include a witness, and to be sent to Nazim either via fax, email, or in PDF form on WhatsApp, reported Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

Physical submissions of the SDs are not allowed as the National Palace is in Kuala Lumpur, which is still under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

Yesterday, Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet tendered their resignations to the King after losing the majority support of MPs.

The King, however, decreed that Muhyiddin serve as caretaker prime minister until his successor is appointed.

A general election to choose a new government has been ruled out as the country is still in the red, pertaining to the COVID-19 situation.
