The Yang di-Pertuan Agong have summoned the 114 members of parliament who are said to back Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob for the prime minister's post, to Istana Negara.

According to a Free Malaysia Today (FMT) report, the MPs are expected to have an audience with the King in batches between 10am and 5pm today, to verify their position on supporting Ismail.

The summoned MPs are all from various parties that were part of the previous Perikatan Nasional-led administration, including Barisan Nasional, Bersatu, and parties from Sabah and Sarawak, as well as several independent lawmakers.

It is said that Ismail had garnered the support of more than the 111 MPs needed to obtain a simple majority in Parliament, while opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim only managed to obtain the support of 92 MPs.

All the 222 MPs had submitted their statutory declarations on their choice of PM, to the Istana Negara, before the 4pm deadline yesterday.

Both Ismail and Anwar have been the frontrunners for the country's top post since since Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down on Monday, after losing the majority support in Parliament.
