Heerraa Ravindran may be only 22 but she has already made her mark in the international music scene.

She had already performed extensively in the UK, Australia, India, South Africa, and Spain, and this year alone, Heerraa won a Rampage Music Award and her hit song "Feel Alive" garnered her the Best Female Single of the Year at the International Singer-Songwriters Association Award (ISSA), reported Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

"I have wanted to be a singer since I was five-years-old.

"No one in my family even listens to the radio. Nobody knows how to play any instrument," she told the portal.

Despite this, her mother, a finance director, has remained supportive of her endeavours by enrolling her in music classes, she added.

Heerraa approached a talent development organisation, stating her desire to become a singer when she was just 14, and the attempt actually worked.

"Before that, I didn't know where to start. That was when I started writing songs, doing covers and listening to more music."

Heerraa, who plays the acoustic guitar, ukulele and keyboard, believes good music can change people's lives for the better.

"I write such positive songs and each song had a different message and story. The songs I typically create have lessons, a purpose, a meaning and a solution."

Besides singing, Heerraa is co-founder of Ascendence, a youth empowerment group that has grown to become an international movement for 13,000 youth since its establishment six years ago, and received the Diana Award in 2019.

Between juggling youth empowerment and making award-winning music, Heerraa has also found time to be a consistent top-scorer in her studies at Harvard.

Heerraa is not the only high-flyer in her family, as her younger sister Harsha is the chief executive officer of her own start-up StartMyName.com, aged only 18.

The young lass has also spoken at three TedX conferences and had penned her own book called "The Makings of a Teenage Entrepreneur" to guide and inspire her fellow teenage entrepreneurs.
