There will be no extension given to the renewal of road tax and driving licenses beyond Sept 30, the Road Transport Department (RTD) has said.

Its director-general Zailani Hashim said this applies to the Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM or road tax), Malaysian Driving Licence, as well as Goods Driving Licence (GDL) and Public Service Vehicle (PSV).

"For those who are 'internet-friendly', we encourage them to renew their road tax and licence online, and be physically present at our premises only when necessary," Bernama quoted him telling a virtual press conference yesterday.

Zailani stressed that besides online renewal facilities, the crucial documents can also be renewed at RTD office counters, as well as over the counter at Pos Malaysia Bhd's branches.

Data shows that more than 1.34 million road tax and driving licences were renewed between Aug 1 and 15 over RTD and Pos Malaysia counters, as well as via MyEG and Puspakom centres.

Previously, Zailani had warned that motorists found to be driving with expired licences or road tax beyond Sept 30, will be compounded or fined by the authorities.
