With the recent unprecedented rise of COVID-19 cases, all events and activities to commemorate Thaipusam on Jan 28 have been cancelled in Selangor.

According to Selangor Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee joint chairman, V. Ganabatirau, the funds allocated for Thaipusam and Ponggal will be channeled into programmes to help the Indian community in the state.
Ganabatirau advised Hindu devotees avoid any Thaipusam procession this year and perform prayers at home.

He urged the public, especially Hindu devotees to keep away from gatherings or crowded places to curb the spread of COVID-19.
