Water supply disruption has become almost a weekly affair in Klang Valley lately.

This time, yet another odour pollution in Sungai Selangor has forced four water treatment plants to shut down, causing unscheduled water supply disruption to more than 1.19 million households in the Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat districts.

The contamination was detected in Sungai Selangor about 2am today, forcing the shutdown of the Rantau Panjang, SSP1, SSP2, and SSP3 water treatment plants, Air Selangor said in a statement posted on its official website.

"Air Selangor will mobilise water tankers to the affected areas, with priority given to critical premises, such as hospitals, and dialysis centres.

"Air Selangor understands the situation faced by consumers who need clean water supply, especially during the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, and the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), and is taking all steps to minimize the impact to affected users," read the statement.

Just last weekend, households in Selangor endured another water cut caused by a burst pipe on Saturday (Oct 17).

Early in September, some 1.2 million households in the Klang Valley experienced a major water cut that lasted for several days, after pollution was detected in Sungai Gong, a tributary of Sungai Selangor.
