We have heard people saying that they love someone "to the moon and back".

However, a man in Rajasthan has taken it up a notch by gifting three acres of land on the moon to his wife, on their wedding anniversary.

"It was our eighth wedding anniversary on december 24. I wanted to do something special for her. Everyone gifts earthly possessions like cars and jewellery, but I wanted to do something different. Therefore, I purchased land on the Moon for her," ANI (Asian News International) quoted the man, Dharmendra Anija as saying.

"I'm happy. I think I'm the first man in Rajasthan to buy land on the Moon," he added.

Needless to say, the wife, Sapna Anija was "over the moon" with the "out of the world" gift from her husband.

"I'm extremely happy. I never expected he would gift me something so special. The party was organised by professional event organisers, and the setting was surreal," she was quoted.

While private ownership of outer space or celestial bodies are not yet possible, websites such as the Luna Society International, which claims to be the "official website of the moon", sell pieces of land on the rock and provide certificates and land documents to those willing to buy them.

It took Dharmendra about a year from the date of the purchase to the point of getting the property document.

A few months ago, another Indian man, Neeraj Kumar from Bodh Gaya also "bought" a one-acre land on the Moon for his birthday.

In 2018, deceased Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput "bought" himself a piece a lunar land on the far side of the Moon, in a region called the "Sea of Muscovy", while industry veteran Shahrukh Khan has several plots of land on the Earth's satellite gifted to him by his fans.
