Penang police will record statements from the family of the 25-year-old houseman who fell to fell to his death from his apartment unit in George Town, last month.

According to Northeast district police chief Superintendant V. Saravanan, the police have already spoken to the deceased's housemate over the incident.

"We will be recording statements from the houseman's family this week.

"For now, his death is still classified as sudden death. Investigations into the cause of death are ongoing," the New Straits Times (NST) quoted Saravanan as saying.

The houseman fell to his death from the 23rd floor of his rented apartment along Jalan Datuk Keramat on April 17. He had just been posted to the Penang Hospital for his housemanship on April 4.

It is worth noting that this is the second death involving a junior doctor posted to the same hospital, in two years.

In December 2020, a doctor who had resigned from the same hospital, died suddenly, said reports.

Following the latest case, various parties had called for the police and the state health department to probe possible elements of bullying that could have led to the houseman's death.

There have been news reports about the highly stressful working situation junior doctors are subjected to at the Penang Hospital.

Let's hope the police and the Health Ministry will probe this case thoroughly, for the sake of justice for the young deceased doctor, and his family.
