"The best kind of friends are fur friends," goes a quote on the internet.

Reports have said that the dumping of pet animals such as dogs and cats had tripled during the Movement Control Order (MCO), as the lockdown put its owners through reduced financial circumstances. At the same time, there have also been a spike in the number of distress calls from experience loneliness and mental stress, among others, to psychological support groups.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has come up with a noble effort that may get both of these problems solved, in one go.

The Pest Control Unit in the Health and Environment Department Health of DBKL is currently organising a pet adoption campaign, where you can adopt cats, dogs, and even puppies, for as low RM15!

The campaign was announced in a recent Facebook post by the authority. The said post has garnered more than 1,400 shares since it was posted on Wednesday, and netizens has unanimously lauded the initiative.

According to the post, the adoption rate starts at RM15 for a cat, followed by RM17.50 for a puppy, and up to RM35 for a dog.

Those interested to give a furry creature a second shot at life, may contact the unit at 03-92210419, or email them at [email protected].
