Police have picked up five men who were among a group which created public nuisance at a housing area in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, earlier this week.

According to Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Said Ibrahim, the suspects aged between 19 and 28 were arrested at various locations in town, on Merdeka night, after videos of them gathering in groups and loudly throttling their motorcycles for no apparent reason, went viral on social media.

"Acting on information, a team of cops from the Seremban police headquarters, and the Negeri Sembilan state contingent, moved in to arrest the suspects.

"We are trying to establish whether the detained men had prior criminal records," Utusan Malaysia quoted Mohd Said saying in a statement yesterday. All the suspects, however, tested negative for drugs.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday evening, which was Merdeka eve.

In addition of being probed over the incident, the suspects will also be compounded for breaking the standard operating procedures (SOPs) under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
