Questions are flooding the social media following the untimely death of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) undergraduate Vinosiny Sivakumar last Saturday.
The 21-year-old Semester 4 student of Bachelor Degree in Accounting (Information System) was found dead in her hostel room at the UUM campus in Sintok, Kedah.
Her family has claimed that she died of alleged electrocution, while the university management has said that it would wait for the official post-mortem report to be released before making a conclusion.
According to Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan, initial investigations had revealed that Vinosiny had suffered from a seizure, but said the case has been classified as SDR (sudden death report) pending the autopsy results.
The social media is abound with questions as to why the victim's family is being deprived of what really transpired before the girl's death.
Vinosiny's father R. Sivakumar told reporters that he had just sent her back to the campus on May 14, after studying online all this while due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 56-year-old also claimed that the university was being vague after calling him on Saturday to say that his daughter had fallen and become unconscious.
Only when he pressed on further did they tell her that she had passed away, he reportedly told news portal Malaysiakini.
Sivakumar also claimed that he had heard from the doctor who showed him her body at the Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar, Kedah, that she had died of electrocution, and that he saw "obvious" burn marks on her face and right hand, as well as bruised fingers.
The distraught father is now demanding the truth from the university, so that other students and parents would not suffer the same fate.
Tributes from friends and the public in general alike have flooded the social media following Vinosiny's tragic passing.
Such a pity indeed - a young, beautiful life, snuffed out too soon.
Let's hope that the post-mortem results will be out soon so that the truth will prevail.
