While regular flights are banned due to the lockdown, special flights operated under the Vande Bharat mission brought passengers to Trichy from various countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar (Doha) and United Arab Emirates (Sharjah & Dubai).
No passengers were on board in the flight that departed from Trichy to Maldives in the morning on Friday. However, 6.1 tonnes of vegetables and food items were sent in the flight. In the return flight to Trichy, 146 passengers were welcomed back to India.
The Indian government launched Vande Bharat mission to bring back stranded Indians from foreign destinations.
