Two Malaysian students have been accepted into the prestigious Harvard University, beating more than 50,000 applicants from around the world.

The Malay Mail reported that the duo - Jarell Cheong Tze Wen and Muhammad Hamdi Ahmad Hakimi, will join the institution's undergraduate class of 2025.

This depite the university admitting its lowest number of students in its 385-year history - with only 1,968 accepted out of 57,435 who applied.

Cheong, from Kuala Lumpur, completed his secondary school education and A-levels in SMK Seri Bintang and Sunway College, while Muhammad Hamdi, who hails from Kuantan, Pahang, graduated from SM Sains Shah Alam in Kuala Lumpur, before pursuing his A-levels in Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar.

According to the report, Cheong excels in dance, Mathematics, and chess, and even started his own dance classes via Zoom for youths aged between 7 and 14, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Muhammad Hamdi, meanwhile, excels in debating and gives tuition to secondary school students. The talented youth also hails from a less-privileged background - attending boarding school to lessen his family's burden, and later working several jobs to make ends meet.

Cheong reportedly plans to study Mathematics at Harvard, while Muhammad Hamdi wants to pursue Economics.

Kudos to the two young men for making their families and the nation proud!

May their success inspire other youngsters to follow suit.
