It is common knowledge that gambling is forbidden in Islam.

But an online betting company has not only offended Muslims by inviting them to gamble, but had done it via a now-viral music video, released during the holy month of Ramadhan.

"What are you waiting for, you may succeed if you are lucky, wash (money) first then celebrate,' goes the lyrics to the two-minute plus song, which stars several individuals believed to be Muslims.

The video starts with a man about to board a bus while sulking, as he does not have much money with him. At the same time, his friends are seen preparing for Hari Raya Aidilfitri back in their hometown.

When the sulky man sits on a bus stop, he taps on a notification for the online betting site on his mobile phone, before joining the bet and rapidly gaining money, much to his delight.

Subsequent scenes show the man driving home in a luxury MPV, where he is greeted by his shocked friends. The group - fully clad in baju melayu, baju kurung, and baju kebaya, then celebrate the festival by dancing and encouraging viewers to give a shot at the online betting site. The female actors are even seen wearing a tudung in some scenes!

Not surprisingly, the video is receiving a bashing from various parties, including netizens and politicians alike.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, in a statement later, confirmed that the police have received a report pertaining to the issue, and said that its producer and the actors featured in the video will be called up for questioning.

"The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and Section 4 (1) (g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act," he said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in a separate statement said that it has liaised with platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube to take down the offensive video.
