It is estimated that between 20 and 30 percent of food prepared at Indian weddings get thrown away after the ceremony ends.
This is tragic, given the fact that starvation is one of the leading causes of death in India.
If there were more people like Papiya Kar, perhaps this problem can be addressed.
The woman is winning netizens' hearts after she was spotted serving buckets of food leftover food from her brother's wedding, to the needy at a railway station in Kolkata, India.
What makes the act more interesting is that Papiya was still clad in fancy saree and jewellery as she scooped up food to men, women, and children who lined up to get the food.
According to India Today, a wedding photographer clicked the charitable act and shared it in a Facebook group, before it went viral on Instagram as well.
Not surprisingly, Papiya Kar's noble gesture won the hearts of netizens, who unanimously praised her act.
According to locals who knew Papiya Kar, this was not her first act of charity, as she is known to feed the needy in the locality in the past.
