The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has expressed disappointment over the government's decision to revoke the emergency ordinances without his consent.

In a statement today, Istana Negara said that the King had stressed that the government's actions, besides failing to respect the rule of law, had also gone against the Agong's functions and powers as the Head of State, as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

"Articles 150(2B) and 150(3) of the Federal Constitution clearly gives the authority for the enactment and revocation of ordinances to the King.

"Therefore, His Royal Highness is aggrieved by the statement made in Parliament on July 26 that the government has cancelled all the emergency ordinances, when the revocation is yet to receive his consent," the Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said.

This was in reference to the statement by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Takiyuddin Hassan in Parliament that all of the ordinances were revoked on July 21.

When asked whether the revocation had received Royal Assent, the minister said he would address the concerns next Monday.

The King stressed that he had told Takiyuddin and Attorney-General Idrus Harun in a virtual audience on July 24 that any revocation of emegency ordinances should be presented and debated in Parliament.

"The minister's remark on July 26 is inaccurate and has misled the MPs.

"Therefore, the revocation of all the emergency ordinances from July 21, which has hastily done without being presented in Parliament, and the misleading and confusing statements made in the Dewan, not only has failed to respect the rule of law as stipulated in the Rukun Negara, but had also gone against the Agong's functions and powers as the head of state, as enshrined in the Federal Constitution," the King added.

The Ruler further noted that while he is aware of the need for him to act upon the advise of the cabinet, at the same time, he is obliged, as the Head of State, to advise or reprimand unconstitutional acts performed by any quarters.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim read out the Royal statement aloud in the Dewan, upon which cries of 'treason' and 'resign' were heard from the opposition bench.
