Pupils from Tamil schools have swept a slew of medals in a local invention exhibition held recently.

The pupils underwent about three months of training with trainers R. Shanmuganathan and Sureendran to participate in the World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE) held during the 32nd International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

According to Shanmuganathan, the exhibition, which was organised by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), was participated by 121 teams from 12 countries.

"In total, 29 teams from 12 Tamil schools from the Klang Valley and Penang, as well as students from a secondary school and Maktab Rendah Sains Mara, whom are former Tamil school pupils, participated in the exhibition.

"They swept 19 gold medals, eight silver medals, two bronze medals, and seven special awards," Shanmuganathan told Astro Ulagam when contacted.

Some of the winning teams are regular winners at science and invention exhibitions, such as SJKT Taman Melawati, SJKT Castlefield, and SJKT Ladang Kinrara, among others.

Their inventions are also timely, including COVID-19 shopping mall crowd control system, COVID-19 smart face mask disposal bin, and smart anti-bacteria shoe rack, among others. Also in the list were multiple-award winning inventions like "My Soil, My Plant" is an invention which matches plants with the type of soil they are best cultivated on.

Time and again, Tamil school pupils have proven that they are in no way, inferior to their national stream school counterparts. Achievements like these also rubbishes calls to abolish the vernacular school system.

Best wishes for coming up with more genius inventions in the future, and making their schools, families, and the country proud.

Congratulations on the achievement, young inventors!
