Astro Uruthunai (Community Engagement), in collaboration with the Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) successfully organised its Financial Literacy Workshop for Young Adults at the Taylor's University Lakeside Campus today.

The participants, including college and university students, benefited from tips on saving money, sticking to a budget, goal setting and planning for retirement, among others, at the event which took place between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

The free event was hosted by TV host Revathi Mariappan and Bernama news anchor Nehsan Selvaraj.

Speakers included Nirmala Supramaniam, Manager, Financial Education Department of AKPK, who spoke on cash flow management, and Siti Norilah Shamsul Bahri from the marketing and financial literacy department of Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB) who stressed on the importance of saving and investment.

Taylor's University lecturer Murugan Krisnamoorthy also shared tips on goal setting, while Nehsan shared his experience of being a young achiever.

Twin brothers D Arwin and Arjun, both 19, were among those present.

"I learned a lot of useful tips about saving and investment.

"Today I picked up skills that will hopefully help me in my life later," he said.

Chiming in, his twin Arjun sid that he heard of the workshop in THR Raaga.

"I thought it would be a useful subject to pick up early. I learned a lot today, especially things like it is best to save first before spending, after getting paid every month," he said.

R Shantini, 28, was encouraged to attend the event by her mother.

"My mother told me to check it out as she said I need to learn to save more.

"I think this is a really useful programme for everyone, especially the youth," she said.
