A team of "young scientists" from SJK Tamil Taman Melawati recently garnered a gold medal in the 10th International Innovation & Invention Competition in Taipei, Taiwan.

The team, comprising Yuvika Mahaganapathy, 9, Kailesh Saravana, 10, and Kavisha Nagarajan, 10, aced the competition with their invention "My soil, my plant", which matches plants with the type of soil it is best cultivated on.

They invented a device, which is linked to a mobile application they also created. One the device is stuck into the soul, it will list down in the app, the type of plants that can be cultivated on the soil.

More than 418 teams from 13 countries took part in the competition jointly organised by the Chinese Innovation and Invention Society (CCIS), and the Moscow International Invention and Innovative Technology Salon (ARCHIMEDES).

The prize presentation took place at the Ambassador Hotel in Taipei last week.

It is worth noting that this is the team's fourth gold medal in a span of 5 months. They had won three golds and two silvers in previous tournaments since July this year.

To make the victory all the more sweeter, the young inventors won the medals on the 100th anniversary of SJK Tamil Taman Melawati.

Following the win, the team is planning to patent their product and register its trademark soon.
